In the 90s there was a theme in popular culture of questioning the nature of society with concepts such as simulation theory and post-humanism, however the cultural shock that came with events like 9/11 led to the narrative shifting to one of social security, and nationalism. Now with the political climate of Brexit and Donald Trump, as well as a drug culture which substitutes mental health services by numbing the population, my generation is beginning to cycle back to criticize the way things are and have been accepted as. With that in mind I began to recycle aesthetics and concepts from 90s films such as The Matrix, Fight Club and Ghost in the Shell to re-contextualize the themes they were trying to discuss.
